July 11, 2007: Captionate 2.19 Beta is available...
Captionate 2.19 Beta is available now to all Captionate customers at their download URLs. This version adds some support for targeting Flash CS3's FLVPlaybackCaptioning component: TT XML export and embedded captions save and load in FLVPlaybackCaptioning format (with certain limitations). Version 2.19 will be released in a few days (depending on the feedback we receive). If you are a Captionate license owner and interested in targeting Flash CS3 FLVPlaybackCaptioning component, please test the beta version and let us know of any issues. Thanks.

Michael A. Jordan's article titled 'Captioning Flash video with Captionate and the captioning-supported FLVPlayback component skins' is published at Adobe Flash Developer Center.
March 27, 2007: Adobe announced Flash CS3 professional
Flash CS3 will be available later (in April), 'Closed captioning' is listed as one of the new features and we will release Captionate 3, compatible with Flash CS3 (and supporting the new closed captioning features. And again we have decided this upgrade to be free, so all our customers will qualify for the new version.

This is a bug-fix update. Also support for Adobe FLVCoreCuePoints XML import and export for cue points is added. (The XML format is used by Adobe Soundbooth public beta).

This is big news! Michael Jordan's work makes using Captionate captions a breeze (very easy). You can download the MXP from Adobe Accessibility blog.
September 21, 2006: Version 2.15 released!
This update adds support for FLV audio extraction as MP3, and audio level graph display, for FLV files with MP3 audio encoding only. UI data entry fields now support ~65000 characters (bytes). XML export time format can now be selected. Several bugs were fixed. See News for more details.

This version adds support for viewing metadata, adding custom metadata, batch processing, Caption data to Cue Points conversion. Also Captionate can now export data to formats not provided by default using external export libraries.

Version 2.0 supports Flash 8 Video Encoder cue points as a new data type. Also new values in the MetaData and on2 VP6 codec is supported. Verison 2 is a free upgrade to all current version 1.x users.
What is Captionate?
Captionate is a Windows application that embeds data into FLV (Flash Video) files. Embedded data is conveniently received at the appropriate time via callback functions (similar to onMetaData event, you receive, for example, onCaption events) while streaming the FLV file from the internet or playing it as a progressive download.
Captionate supports three data types: Markers, for simple cue points with optional labels and Captions, for captioning / subtitling optionally with multi language tracks and speakers, and (Flash 8 Video Encoder) Cue Points with name:value pair parameters.
Captionate provides an easy to use environment for entering the data, with FLV preview and a timeline.
Captionate fully supports Unicode on OSes that support it (Win2K/XP). Though Captionate can run on any Windows OS, Windows XP is recommended.
